Borgward Isabella - 1955-1961

Carl borgwards isabella was his best and most successful car, attractive in appearance and impressive in performance for its engine size. But, in spite of sales of more than 200,000, the isabella couldnt keep his company from falling into bankruptcy. A mexican company bought the components and assembled the car until 1966.

About vehicle
Plain and ts models the original isabella was a two-door sedan with fully independent suspension, an alligator-style long hood and the marques diamond-shaped insignia in the center of the horizontal grille. For 1956 a station wagon was added, as well as a ts (touring sport) sedan that could exceed 90 mph. A sliding sunroof became an isabella option. The following year a ts sports coupe with a downswept trim line on each side joined the series. There was also a convertible for 1957 only. Ts models had parking lights on the fenders. speedy racers the 1959 isabellas included two ts sedans: Sports and deluxe. In that year a ts sedan with an optional speed kit set a class record on the bonneville, utah, salt flats, averaging 93.56 mph. earlier racing isabellas equipped with 115hp fuel-injected engines won the 1954 eifelrennen and the 1955 mille miglia in class.
Despite the success of the isabella, this four-cylinder car was unable to keep borgward in business
