Carl borgward began turning out hansa automobiles in 1933-34 and introduced the first borgward passenger car in 1939. His hansa 1500 was one of the first german cars to enter production after world war ii.

Enveloping body when this new model was introduced at the 1949 geneva show, onlookers, used to running boards and freestanding fenders, at least on a midrange car, were surprised at its enveloping body. Other characteristics included a split windshield, low headlights and a diamond-shaped grille center. In addition to the two-door sedan, a hansa 1500 sports convertible and station wagon were produced. The convertible was bodied by hebmuller. surprising speed the 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine initially generated only 48 hp, but a 66hp version went into production in 1951, shortly after a streamlined hansa 1500 set 12 international class records on the montlhery course. This 66hp racer traveled 1,000 miles at an average speed of more than 107 mph. The sports convertible had a higher-compression 80hp version of this engine. as did a 1954 fastback two-seat coupe with torsion-bar rear suspension that reached 105 mph.
This borgward hansa 1500 two-door sedan was one of the first automobiles to be produced in germany after world war ii.
